What Is Codeword Solver?
Codeword Solver is a free online tool that helps you solve codeword, code cracker, and coded crossword puzzles. It matches patterns against UK English word lists with proper British spellings — exactly what you need for Daily Mail, Telegraph, Times, and Guardian codewords.
How It Works
You enter a pattern using letters you know, numbers for repeated positions, and wildcards for unknowns. The solver checks your pattern against a curated UK dictionary and returns the most likely matching words, ranked by how common they are.
No data is sent to a server — the entire word list is loaded into your browser so results are instant, private, and work offline after the first load.
UK Dictionary
British newspaper codewords use British English exclusively. Our UK dictionaries include words with proper British spellings: colour, honour, favour, labour, centre, theatre, programme, travelling, organised, and hundreds of other variants that US dictionaries exclude.
